Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

 

Q  What is ATL project?

A  The ‘Atal Tinkering Lab’ (ATL) Project is part of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), which is a flagship initiative set up by the NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, to promote Innovation and Entrepreneurship across the length and breadth of our country.

                               

Q  What is the current status of this project? (how many registration done)

A  To date 8,878 schools have already been selected for ATL Grants and by the end of 2021 over 20,000 schools are expected to be operational. 2. Phase-II of the project has already been started by the Govt., in which 12000 schools are to be registered.

                               

Q  How does a School qualify to apply

A  All Govt. Aided as well as Private schools having classes upto X Std. are eligible to apply for this project. They should have conducted the Class X exams for atleast last 3 years and they should have a dedicated space of 1200-1500 sq. ft. for setting up the lab

                               

Q  How can my School apply for the ATL Project

Q  How does AMP support a school for this Project

A  AMP has collaborated with by Govt.’s National allied partners for ATL, Students’ Alliance LLP (www.studentalliance.in) from Mumbai, Maharashtra. They will help schools get registered in this prestigious project in all the various phases of the project application. Once the School is selected in the Project, all the material required for the Lab & Teachers’ training will be provided by Students’ Alliance LLP

                               

Q  If a Society/Trust runs multiple schools, can all the Schools under it apply for the Project

A  Yes all the School run by a Society/Trust which fulfill above mentioned requirements and have a separate UDISE/DISE No. will be elgible for it

                               

Q  How do we ensure that our School gets a genuine chance to get registered in this Project

A  First of all you have to ensure that your School falls in the 112 Aspirational Districts list released by the Govt, available with Students Alliance LLP. After that Students Alliance LLP will help you fill-up the required form and documents for submission. Once your school is selected, they will help you set up the Lab in accordance with the Govt's recommendations and budget and finally help you run the lab for the next 5 years

                               

Q  What is the Utilization Breakdown for ATL Grant?

A  As per the Project details, total funds of Rs. 20 lakhs  will be granted, out of which 10 lakhs are for capital expenses and Rs 2 lakhs are for Operational and Maintenance expenses every year for 5 years

                               

Q  Are cosmetic changes like AC installation, soundproofing is granted from the funds under the ATL scheme?

A  "No, installation of air conditioning, soundproofing, and other cosmetic changes are not included in the fund. Schools needs to do these using their own resource."

                               

Q  Can the entire lab be constructed using the ATL grant funds?

A  "No, the schools cannot use the ATL grant to construct the lab and the school is expected to provide an existing space for the ATL"

                               

Q  Does the school need to have a separate account for ATL?

A  Yes, the school needs to have a separate bank that should be in the Project name in a nationalized bank or any bank having CBS (Core Banking Solution) facility for the ATL. Students Alliance LLP will guide on this.

                               

Q  Can the schools change their Bank Account Details?

A  Yes, but only in case of an emergency by sending a formal mail to atlhelp-niti@nic.in explaining the situation.

                               

Q  Which schools need to use DARPAN ID while registering?

A  The schools run by NGO should get the DARPAN ID of their parent NGO .

                               

Q  What if parent NGO is not registered with DARPAN?

A  The parent NGO must first register with DARPAN portal and the same with  NGO's PAN Number is to be submitted by School while registering with PFMS on their School Name.

                               

Q  What are the documents that have to be uploaded and sent to AIM?

A  "The link for this list of documents is  http://aimapp2.aim.gov.in/atldocument/documents.phpHowever, Students Alliance LLP will guide on this."

                               

Q  Is there any space concession in the area for hilly regions and islands? If yes, how can the school avail it?

A  Yes, for hilly region/island, the minimum space requirement is brought down to 1000 sq. ft and the school is required to clarify the need for space concession on the Letter of Principal.

                               

Q  Can a school appoint multiple ATL in-charges?

A  "No, the school can appoint only one ATL in-charge and the honorarium of Rs. 5000 per month will be allotted to that ATL in-charge"

                               

Q  Who can the school appoint as an ATL in-charge?

A  The schools can use their discretion while appointing ATL in-charge. However, the person should be competent enough to understand the equipment being used in the ATL and mentor the students about the same with the  will to learn more about the technologies being used in the ATL

                               

Q  Is It necessary to have WI-FI/Broadband connection for the ATL Lab?

A  Yes.

                               

Q  Will Students Alliance LLP help in setting up the lab?

A  Yes, Students Alliance LLP will guide on this.

                               

Q  How to schedule a curriculum for ATL activities for various classes?

A  Students Alliance LLP will guide on this.

                               

Q  Can the schools change the Email Id that they have registered with Atal Innovation Mission?

A  Yes, by sending a formal mail stating the reason from the new email Id to atlhelp-niti@nic.in  a request for a change of the old email id can be done

                               

Q  How to apply for the Mentor of Change at Atal Innovation Mission?

A  "By registering themselves as a #MentorOfChange with Atal Innovation Mission a person can apply for a mentor. For details, please visit the website  http://aim.gov.in/mentor.php "

                               

Q  Who can apply as a Mentor of Change at the Atal Innovation Mission?

A  Leaders who can spend 1 and 2 hours every week in one or more ATL labs and help students with upskilling and computational thinking needs to apply for a mentor.

Below are the expected qualities:

  • Technical Know-how: building prototypes,
  • Innovation and Design: inculcating solution-oriented approach,
  • Inspirational: leadership and self-motivation, and
  • Business and Entrepreneurship: encouraging ideas and team building
  • Sounding board/guide, break stereotypes and bias to bring about mindset and behavioral change

Q  Is the ATL accessible to students and participants outside the school?

A  Yes, if any student from another school is interested, the ATL school must allow them to access ATL without charging.

                               

Is it possible for an NGO to tie up with a school for ATL?

A  "Yes, it is possible for any external organization including NGOs to partner with a school hosting an ATL. However, no financial transactions of any kind are allowed from the ATL grant."
