Economic Development Plan for the Muslim Community

AMP held a Senior Professionals’ Meeting on 26th Aug’17 to start developing a roadmap for the Economic Development of the Community.

Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), took a historic precedence of bringing together senior professionals from different verticals under one roof in order to formulate a long-term roadmap for the Economic Development of the Community and its Welfare.

According to an article, India’s economy is booming but Muslims continue to suffer great economic deprivation. Muslims are the second largest demographic of India, with nearly 14 per cent of the country’s population or roughly 172 million people. The biggest problems facing Muslim society today are economic, but they could be relieved with public and private action that encourages economic redevelopment.

Thus, the objective of a series of similar meetings mentioned above is to strengthen the Economic Development of the Community in a measured way and lay the foundation as well as start the ground work for its overall development and progress.

For the past 25 years, Education has been the prime agenda of the Community which has yielded good results, however, we now need to add another Goal-Post. In order to empower the community economically, we need to prepare a Roadmap which will ensure that the Objectives of Economic Developments are met and surpassed. The final recommendations of this Roadmap will be submitted at the highest level of the Central Government including the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister.

For attaining this objective, AMP has planned such meetings in different cities with professionals from different walks of life like Bureaucrats, Business Leaders, Economists, Finance & Banking Professionals, Sr. Professionals from other verticals, Ulemas and NGO’s etc.

The following major decisions were taken in the meeting:

  • To undertake research on existing reports regarding economic condition of Muslims in India.
  • Tie up with different organizations like TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) to do data collection and research on ground economic condition of Muslims in India.
  • Organize brainstorming sessions with various groups as mentioned earlier in different cities all over India to formulate the Economic Development draft plan.
  • Network with other Muslim Organizations all over India who are working on a smaller level on the subject of Economic Development of Muslims in India.
  • Explore any successful Economic models running in any part of India, learn from them and implement it in other parts of India.
  • Advocacy with the Central and State governments for study of Socio-Economic conditions of Muslims and implementation of a concrete plan to improve their situation.
  • To utilise the expertise and resources of secular non-Muslim Organizations who are engaged in Economic Welfare activities.
  • The Development Plan thus created will be handed over at the District Level/Village Level Team or Network of Activists/Organizations to implement, manage and monitor the Economic Development activity and thus empower the Community.

AMP, thus invites all established professionals from the Community to join hands in this landmark initiative and make this noble endeavour a huge success.
