Report for Mira Road Job Fair - 7th January, 2017

Addressing the reeling unemployment effects due to demonetization, Association Of Muslim Professionals (AMP) and Ishterak organized mega Job Fair sees unprecedented response.

Mumbai 07 January 2017: Association Of Muslim Professionals (AMP) had organized a mega Job Fair in Mira Road East, Mumbai in association with Ishterak Education Society on 7th January, 2017. The job fair was attended by more than 1350 candidates out of which 280 candidates got selected on the spot and another 350 were shortlisted for next rounds.

AMP has always been in the forefront of addressing various welfare issues for the Community, especially those related to education and employment. In this respect, the objectives of AMP, which it had framed more than eight years back and has been successfully implementing since, are very much in line with the present government focus on Skill Development and providing Employment/Job opportunities which AMP has been successfully and effectively implementing the same since long.

The Mira Road Job Fair was another endeavor in this direction and in the present scenario with an environment of skepticism due to demonetization it became all the more imperative. There were 43 companies including renowned International Placement Consultants F. Gheewala, IT firms such as NIIT, banks such as Yes Bank & Bombay Mercantile Bank, Healthcare Startup Portea now Health Vista India and other successful startups such as Ola Cabs & DriveU, Finance companies such as Angel Broking, NGO such as Cancer Aid Foundation & Magic Bus India, manufacturing firms such as Evolute, and leading other consultancies etc. had participated in the event. Many job aspirants across Mumbai as well as various other cities had attended the event since it provided the rare opportunity to directly connect with potential employers and demonstrate their skills to them in a one-on-one manner.

AMP being a professional organization conducting the Job Fair intrinsic value addition was the main focus along with providing employment opportunities. As such there was general screening of the candidates, followed by an Aptitude Test based on which the candidates were counseled and there was also an elaborate sessions in ‘Interview Preparation Techniques’ conducted by AMP member Mr.Mizab Bhoje, Senior Corporate Trainer.

The Job Fair was inaugurated by Mr. Muzaffar  Hussain, a senior Politician and Social Leader who seemed very pleased by this endeavour. He spent some time interacting with the Corporates and also addressing the gatherings and gave some very practical advice to the candidates regarding how to build a stable and successful career. He applauded AMP and Ishteraq’s efforts towards this welfare cause mentioning that he was impressed with AMP and keenly followed its developments across the country and all its activities. 

Mr. Soheb Selia, Organizing Secretary of AMP said “Assisting the youth through providing Employment Opportunities is one of the core objectives of AMP and we have been working relentlessly over the last 8 years in this direction”

When enquired about the idea behind such an event Mrs. Rubina Firoz, Gen. Sec. Ishterak Organization said, “The youth of our country possess a lot of potential and are quite skilled. However due to the current market scenario many a times they are not able to connect to the industry and do not get an opportunity to present their skills. Such events are needed to give everyone a fair chance to prove their potential.

The recruiters when contacted also conveyed that they were indeed very pleased with the organization of the entire event and the quality of the individuals whom they interacted with. This Job fair gave a chance to the candidates to give interview for vacancies in Marketing, Back Office, Admin, Sales, Accounting and other departments of these prestigious firms.

Mr. Razak Shaikh heading the AMP Employment Cell said, "The response for the event was indeed very overwhelming. We had a lot of eager and potential from across the country turning up for the Job fair hoping to find their ideal job. With the successful conduct of all its Job Fairs, AMP will continue doing more such events not only in Mumbai but also in various other cities across India”.

The candidates who had attended were not only from Mira Road but also from other suburbs of Mumbai as well as other cities like Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur etc and were very enthusiastic and said that they were happy that such opportunities are provided to them by some empathetic people and also expressed their sincere gratitude to the AMP team for giving them this opportunity.

The pillar of strength behind the event was the AMP administration team led by Mr.Feroz Shaikh – Manager-Operation, Bilal Mansuri - Project Coordinator, Miss.Amrin Patel – HR & Admin Officer, Alia  Dalwai – Sr. Project Coordinator.

AMP team under the guidance of Its members Mr.Razak Shaikh and Soheb Selia was ably supported by its wonderful and Professional team members Navid Shaikh from Kalyan, Sakina Basta from Byculla, Farhan from Bhandup; Iftekhar Shaikh, Shaibaz Rumani, Dr.Kaifee from Mumbra; Arshad Shaikh & Ehteshamuddin from Malad; Nadeem Shaikh from Bhiwandi, Murshid Khan from Andheri, Rukhsana Shaikh from Mira Road, who had come together from across the city, who worked tirelessly and were the key to make this event a grand success.
